Water in Dubai: what the plant has to deal with
Most buildings in Dubai run on desalinated network water. It arrives soft, but it is stored, pumped and heated many times before it reaches a guest room, a kitchen or a cooling tower. Long storage in rooftop and basement tanks, warm pipework through the summer and fading chlorine residuals all shape what on-site treatment has to do.
Industrial users face a different list. Boilers, chillers and cooling towers concentrate whatever is dissolved in their make-up water, so small amounts of hardness, silica or chloride turn into scale and corrosion over time. Sites near the coast that draw seawater or brackish well water need full desalination before the water is usable at all.
Water also leaves the building. Showers, basins and laundries produce large volumes of lightly used greywater that can be treated and reused for flushing and landscape irrigation.

Questions buyers ask
Is Dubai network water good enough without extra treatment?
Network water is treated before it reaches the building, but storage tanks, warm pipework and specific uses change the picture. Hotels and towers often add filtration and UV disinfection on stored water, softening or polishing for kitchens and laundries, and RO where very low mineral content is needed. The right answer comes from testing the water at the point of use.
Can a Dubai hotel reuse its greywater?
Yes, greywater from showers, basins and laundries can be collected separately, treated and reused for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. The treatment usually combines screening, filtration, a biological or physical stage and disinfection. The design depends on the volume, the planned reuse and the space in the plant room.
What treatment does cooling tower and boiler make-up water need?
Cooling towers and boilers concentrate dissolved salts, so make-up water is usually softened to stop scale, and RO is added where chloride or silica must be kept low. High-pressure boilers may also need demineralised or EDI water. The choice depends on the equipment and the water analysis.
Do you supply seawater RO for beachfront and island projects?
Yes. AFG manufactures complete SWRO plants with self-cleaning filters, sand filtration, ultrafiltration, cartridge filters, high-pressure pumps, energy recovery and remineralisation. Beachfront hotels and island developments that cannot rely on the network, or want their own supply, are typical users.
