Water in Abu Dhabi: three different sources
Abu Dhabi asks a lot of one design team because the water changes so much across the emirate. On the coast and the islands the source is warm Gulf seawater, with a biological load that rises in the hot months and an intake that has to cope with sand and shell. That calls for a careful pre-treatment train before any membrane sees the water.
Inland, around Al Ain and the farming areas, many sites rely on wells. Brackish groundwater varies from one well to the next and can drift over the years, and hardness, sulphate or boron may be high enough to hurt crops or scale equipment. A plant here is designed around the worst well it will see, not the average.
In the industrial zones, factories mostly start from network water but need it softer, purer or more consistent for their process, and then have to treat what they discharge.
Systems we build for Abu Dhabi
From water sample to running plant
Every Abu Dhabi project starts with the water itself. A recent analysis, and for wells ideally more than one sample, sets the pre-treatment, the membrane selection and the recovery the plant can safely run at. Flow, storage and the end use complete the design brief.
AFG then engineers and manufactures the system at its factory in Antalya, where it is assembled and checked before shipping to the UAE. Installation and commissioning follow on site, together with operator training, and AFG Dubai remains the contact for service, membranes and spare parts.

Questions buyers ask
Can RO treat brackish well water for farms in the Al Ain area?
Yes. Brackish RO lowers salinity to a level the crop tolerates, and the permeate can be blended with raw water to keep useful minerals. Where boron is high, a second pass or a boron-selective stage is added. The design starts from the analysis of each well.
What does a seawater intake on the Abu Dhabi coast need?
Warm Gulf water carries sand, organics and a seasonal biological load, so the intake is usually protected by self-cleaning filters, followed by sand filtration or ultrafiltration and cartridge filters before the high-pressure membranes. The exact train depends on the intake location and the seawater analysis.
Can you treat wastewater from a Mussafah factory or workshop?
Yes. AFG manufactures physical, chemical and biological wastewater plants, including packaged MBBR systems. Oils, solids, detergents and organic load are handled in separate stages as needed. A sample analysis and the daily flow are the starting point.
What if well salinity changes over time?
The plant is designed with margin for the expected range, using the poorest well or season as the basis. Pumps, membranes and dosing are selected so the system can keep producing the target quality as the feed changes, and operators can adjust recovery within safe limits.
