Desalination plants and RO plants for Saudi Arabia

AFG manufactures desalination plants, reverse osmosis plants and water treatment systems for Saudi industry, agriculture and hospitality. AFG supplies Saudi Arabia from its UAE office; quotes and project enquiries are handled by AFG Dubai.

Water in Saudi Arabia: two coasts and a large interior

Saudi Arabia is unusual in having two long coastlines on two different seas. Red Sea water and Arabian Gulf water differ in salinity, temperature and biological activity, and an SWRO plant designed for one coast is not automatically right for the other. Pre-treatment, membrane arrays and pressure are matched to the actual intake.

Away from the coasts, many farms and inland facilities depend on groundwater. Brackish wells vary in salinity and hardness, and some carry iron or boron, which affects both crops and equipment. Industrial cities add process, boiler and cooling water needs and the effluent that comes with production.

New tourism and hospitality developments, often far from existing networks, need their own reliable supply and a way to reuse water.

Where AFG systems fit in Saudi Arabia

01

Industrial cities

Process RO, demineralised water, boiler and cooling make-up, and effluent treatment.

02

Agriculture

Brackish well RO, boron control and filtration for irrigation and greenhouses.

03

Tourism and hospitality

SWRO, storage, greywater recovery and wastewater treatment for resorts and developments.

04

Remote facilities

Containerised or skid-mounted treatment for sites without network supply.

How a Saudi project works

01

Enquiry through AFG Dubai

Send the source, capacity and end use; the UAE office handles the quote and project contact.

02

Intake-specific design

Seawater or well analysis decides pre-treatment, membranes and recovery.

03

Manufacture and shipping

The plant is built and checked in Antalya, then shipped to Saudi Arabia.

04

Commissioning and spares

Commissioning and operator training on site, with spare parts and consumables coordinated afterwards.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Is a desalination plant for the Red Sea different from one for the Gulf?

It can be. The two seas differ in salinity, temperature and biological load, which changes pre-treatment, membrane selection and operating pressure. AFG designs each seawater desalination plant from the analysis of the water at its own intake rather than from a standard model.

Can a reverse osmosis plant make brackish groundwater usable for farms?

Yes. A brackish RO plant lowers salinity to suit the crop, and blending with raw water can keep calcium and magnesium. Where boron is high, a second pass or selective resin is added. The design follows the well analysis.

What does a new resort or development need?

Usually an independent supply such as SWRO or brackish RO, storage, disinfection, and wastewater and greywater treatment so water can be reused for irrigation. The scope depends on the site and phasing.

Do you supply industrial process water systems?

Yes: RO, demineralisation, EDI, softening and filtration for process, boiler and cooling water, plus wastewater treatment. Each is engineered from the water analysis and the process requirements.

How do you look after RO membranes on Red Sea and Gulf intakes?

Mainly through the pre-treatment. Both seas are warm and biologically active, and the Gulf is also very saline, so fouling and scaling are the main risks to the membranes. The pre-treatment, antiscalant dosing and cleaning system are designed from the analysis of the actual intake, and pressures, flows and permeate quality are monitored so cleaning happens before output drops too far. There is no fixed replacement interval; our RO plant FAQ explains what decides membrane life, and our guide to pre-treatment and fouling covers the intake side.

How does AFG supply Saudi Arabia?

AFG supplies Saudi Arabia from its UAE office; quotes and project enquiries are handled by AFG Dubai. Systems are manufactured at the AFG factory in Antalya, Türkiye, and shipped to site.

Can treatment for a large development be built in phases?

Yes. Large developments often open in stages, so treatment can be built as modules that are added as demand grows. Intake, pre-treatment and storage are sized for the final stage where that makes sense, and membrane trains are added later.
