Desalination & RO

Reverse osmosis plants

An RO plant removes dissolved salts from brackish, well, municipal and process water. AFG designs and manufactures each reverse osmosis system around your water analysis, the permeate quality you need and the daily capacity.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Which reverse osmosis series does AFG manufacture?

AFG builds three industrial RO series for small to large duties: Perge, Aspendos and Olympos. Each unit is selected from the raw water analysis, the permeate quality you need and the daily capacity, then fitted with the pre-treatment, dosing and controls that suit the site.

What water can an RO plant treat?

They are built for brackish, well, municipal and process water, for example to lower conductivity for irrigation, boiler feed, laundries or production. Seawater needs higher-pressure SWRO equipment, which AFG manufactures as a separate family. A water analysis tells us which design fits your source.

What pre-treatment does a reverse osmosis system need?

RO membranes need water with low suspended solids, no free chlorine and controlled scaling potential. Depending on the source, that means sand, carbon or ultrafiltration, softening, cartridge filters and antiscalant dosing. Getting pre-treatment right is the biggest factor in membrane life and stable output.

How often are RO membranes replaced?

There is no fixed interval. Membrane life depends on the feed water, how well the pre-treatment protects the membranes, the recovery rate and how consistently the plant is monitored, flushed and cleaned. Falling output, a rising pressure difference or poorer permeate quality show when cleaning or replacement is due. Good pre-treatment is the most effective way to extend membrane life; our guide to pre-treatment and fouling explains why.

Does RO water need remineralisation?

For drinking water, usually yes. RO permeate is very low in minerals and can be aggressive to pipes, so minerals are added back, for example by passing the water over dolomite or by dosing, and the water is then disinfected. AFG designs this post-treatment together with the plant. More in remineralisation and UV for RO drinking water.

How are spares and service handled?

Membranes are cleaned when output or quality drops and are replaced over the life of the plant, together with cartridges and dosing chemicals. AFG supplies RO membranes, pressure vessels, high-pressure and dosing pumps and valves as spare parts. Service and maintenance scope for UAE and GCC sites is agreed in the quote.
