Automatic backwash filters

Automatic backwash filters by AFG, product render

Self-cleaning mechanical filters that remove sand, rust and particles without interrupting flow.

When the filter element reaches a set level of fouling, the system cleans itself automatically without stopping the flow. Maintenance drops, operation stays continuous and filter performance is kept.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

How does an automatic backwash filter work?

Water passes through a screen element that catches sand, rust and particles. When fouling reaches a set level, the filter cleans itself by flushing the element without stopping the flow. Operation stays continuous, maintenance drops and filtration performance is kept steady.

Where are self-cleaning filters used?

They are used as first-stage protection on seawater intakes, wells, cooling circuits, irrigation and process lines. In AFG's hotel seawater plants in Serik, Bodrum and Kuşadası, a self-cleaning filter is the first stage before sand filtration and SWRO. It takes the coarse load so the finer stages behind it run longer between cleanings.

Do automatic backwash filters still need maintenance?

Much less than manual filters, but not none. The screen element, seals and flushing valve should be inspected at intervals and the controls checked. How often depends on the solids load in your water, which we look at when sizing the filter.

What do you need to size a backwash filter?

Flow rate, operating pressure, the water source and the particle size you need to stop. A water analysis or turbidity data helps. Send these through the quote form and we will select the filter and screen rating. Tell us too whether the filter protects membranes, nozzles or heat exchangers, as that sets how fine it must be.
