FAQ

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between sand and activated carbon filters?

Sand and multimedia filters remove turbidity and suspended particles. Activated carbon filters adsorb chlorine, taste, odour and many organic compounds. They are often installed in series: sand first to take out solids, carbon second to polish the water before softening, RO or use.

Which filter series and vessels does AFG make?

Sand filtration comes in the KFS, EKFS and EAKFS series and activated carbon filtration in the AKFS series. Both are built with surface piping in epoxy-coated St37 steel or FRP pressure vessels. Vessel size and media depth are chosen from flow rate and water quality.

Why is carbon filtration needed before RO?

Free chlorine in municipal or disinfected water damages polyamide RO membranes. An activated carbon filter removes it before it reaches the membranes and also lowers organics that cause fouling. Where carbon is not suitable, chemical dechlorination can be designed in instead.

How are sand and carbon filters maintained?

Filters are backwashed to lift out trapped solids, either on a timer or on pressure drop, and are often automated with control valves. Sand and carbon media are topped up or replaced over time, depending on load. AFG supplies quartz sand, activated carbon and filter vessels as spares.
